Martha Stewart (born Martha Ruth Haworth, October 7, 1922 – February 17, 2021) was an American actress best remembered for her role as murder victim Mildred Atkinson in the classic film In a Lonely Place (1950) alongside Humphrey Bogart. Starting her career at just 16 as a swing singer (after lying about her age), she later replaced Marion Hutton in Glenn Miller's orchestra and sang with Claude Thornhill before being discovered by a Hollywood talent scout. She made her film debut in Doll Face (1945) and went on to appear in movies like I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now (1947), Convicted (1950), and Aaron Slick from Punkin Crick (1952), as well as on Broadway in Park Avenue. On television, she co-hosted Those Two (1952–1953) and appeared in The Alfred Hitchcock Hour (1963) before retiring after her final film, Surf Party (1964). In her personal life, she was married three times, including to actor George O'Hanlon, and had three children; she was famously the subject of an erroneous obituary published by Variety in 2012 while she was still alive. Stewart passed away on February 17, 2021, at the age of 98, leaving behind a legacy as a versatile performer of the mid-20th century.
