The 2025–26 Liga MX season (sponsored as Liga BBVA MX) marked the 79th professional top-flight football season in Mexico, divided into the Apertura 2025 and Clausura 2026 tournaments, each contested by the same 18 clubs. The Apertura began on July 11, 2025, and saw defending champions Toluca claim the title again, winning 9–8 on penalties after a 2–2 aggregate draw in the final. The Clausura started on January 9, 2026, and omitted the play-in round to accommodate the 2026 FIFA World Cup schedule, with Cruz Azul emerging as champions via a 2–1 aggregate victory. Notably, this was Mazatlán FC's final season in the top tier, as Atlante FC acquired their registration for 2026–27, and Cruz Azul had to relocate to the Estadio Cuauhtémoc after Pumas UNAM ended their stadium rental agreement. Finally, with promotion and relegation suspended, a coefficient table determined fines for the bottom three clubs, with last-place Mazatlán risking an additional $20 million penalty if they finished last again.
