Tyler Perry Studios (TPS) is a major film production studio in Atlanta, Georgia, founded by actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry in 2006. In 2019, Perry celebrated the grand opening of its new 330-acre location on the former Fort McPherson complex (purchased in 2015), making it one of the largest studios in the US and establishing Perry as the first African-American to outright own a major film studio. The studio has become a vital economic engine for Atlanta, hosting major events like the 2020 Democratic presidential debate and Miss Universe 2019. Perry's film career, which began with the low-budget hit Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2006) and the successful Madea franchise, saw his distribution shift from Lionsgate to Paramount and Netflix. In October 2023, TPS signed a first-look deal with Netflix to develop new projects, and in June 2021, Perry partnered with T.D. Jakes to purchase additional land in southwest Atlanta for expansion. The studio also survived two fires in 2012 and sold its previous location in 2018.
