Jeff Kent (born March 7, 1968) was a Major League Baseball second baseman from 1992 to 2008, best known for his six standout seasons with the San Francisco Giants (1997–2002). A five-time All-Star, he became one of the greatest power-hitting second basemen in history, winning the 2000 National League MVP after batting .334 with 33 home runs and 125 RBIs. He helped the Giants capture a division title in 1997 and an NL pennant in 2002, and later played for the Astros and his hometown Dodgers before retiring in 2008. Kent holds the major league record for most home runs by a second baseman (351), and his career .500 slugging percentage ranks second all-time at the position. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2026, the same year the Giants will retire his number 21.
