The LA Galaxy entered their 30th MLS season in 2025 as the defending champions, having won a record sixth MLS Cup in 2024, and played their home matches at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. However, their title defense started disastrously: they lost their opening match on February 23, 2025, to expansion side San Diego FC and went on to set the worst record for a defending MLS Cup champion by failing to win any of their first ten matches. Beyond MLS, the club competed in the Leagues Cup, hosted the Campeones Cup, and made their first CONCACAF Champions Cup appearance since 2015–16, where they were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Tigres UANL. The regular season featured 34 matches (17 home, 17 away) with breaks for the FIFA Club World Cup and the Leagues Cup, and the club opted to send their USL affiliate, Ventura County FC, to the U.S. Open Cup instead of their senior squad. Despite the poor league start, a victory in the Leagues Cup knockout stage secured the Galaxy a spot in the 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup, offering a bright spot in an otherwise challenging season.
