Club América Femenil, the women's section of the famous Mexican club, was founded on December 5, 2016, and plays its home games at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Competing in Liga MX Femenil, it is one of the most successful teams, having won the league title three times and being the only Mexican women's club to win a continental trophy. Its biggest rivalry is with Guadalajara, known as El Clasico Nacional, which is one of the most intense matchups in the league. Under first manager Leonardo Cuellar, the team won its first title in the Apertura 2018 tournament, defeating Tigres on penalties after a 3-3 aggregate draw. After Cuellar stepped down in March 2021, Craig Harrington took over in June 2021, and the club signed its first foreign players, including American Stephanie Ribeiro, in July 2021. In the Apertura 2021 tournament, they finished 5th and defeated rivals Guadalajara in the quarter-finals, though they were ultimately eliminated again in the playoffs.
