NBC, founded in 1926 by the Radio Corporation of America (RCA), is the oldest major broadcast network in the United States and is affectionately known as the "Peacock Network" for its colorful logo introduced in 1956 to promote early color TV. Headquartered in New York City's Rockefeller Center, the network's ownership has shifted dramatically over the decades—from RCA to General Electric in 1986, and finally to Comcast's NBCUniversal in 2011. It is the home of legendary long-running programs, including Meet the Press (1947), Today (1952), The Tonight Show (1954), and Saturday Night Live (1975). The network also boasts the longest-running live-action prime-time series in American history with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which debuted in 1999 and is still airing. Today, NBC broadcasts 87 hours of weekly programming, including 22 hours of prime-time content, to its 12 owned-and-operated stations and affiliates across the country.
