Nicolás "Nico" González Iglesias (born 3 January 2002) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Newcastle United. He rose through Barcelona's youth academy, making his La Liga debut in August 2021 and scoring his first senior goal against Osasuna later that year. After a loan at Valencia, he joined Porto in 2023 for €8.5 million, where he won the Taça de Portugal and the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira. In February 2025, Manchester City signed him for £50 million, and he made an immediate impact by scoring a memorable Champions League goal against Real Madrid while helping the club secure the EFL Cup and FA Cup in 2025-26. He then transferred to Newcastle United in August 2026 for a reported £52 million. The son of Deportivo La Coruña legend Fran, González has established himself as one of Europe's most highly sought-after midfielders.
