Festival of Nations

The Festival of Nations is a free, annual multicultural event held in Tower Grove Park in St. Louis, organized by the International Institute of St. Louis (IISTL). It traces its roots back to the International May Festival of 1920, which drew about 2,000 attendees and is considered one of the earliest multicultural celebrations in the United States. The vibrant festival features an array of ethnic food booths, traditional dance and music performances, arts and crafts, and an international bazaar. The event was paused during World War II (1942–1945) and again in 2020, which would have marked its centennial anniversary. Beyond the celebration, the IISTL works year-round to build positive relationships between newcomers and long-time Americans by offering services like English classes, refugee resettlement, and job assistance.
