Gåte (Norwegian for 'riddle') is a Norwegian band from Trøndelag that blends traditional folk music with metal and electronica, a style often described as progressive folk-rock. Formed in 2000 by violinist Sveinung Sundli, the group features his sister Gunnhild Sundli on lead vocals and achieved a commercial breakthrough with their debut album Jygri (2002), gaining popularity across Scandinavia and Germany. After releasing Iselilja (2004), the band went on hiatus, but reunited in 2017 with the EP Attersyn and the album Svevn (2018). In 2024, they represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Ulveham", finishing 25th in the Grand Final after qualifying from the second semi-final. Their music often reinterprets traditional Norwegian folk tunes and sets poems by poet Astrid Krog Halse to music, performed in a broad Trøndersk dialect. With Gunnhild's distinctive voice and their innovative fusion of genres, Gåte has become a standout act in the Nordic folk-rock scene.
