Michael Harris II (born March 7, 2001) is a professional baseball center fielder for the Atlanta Braves, fulfilling a childhood dream of playing for the team he grew up watching near Turner Field. Drafted in the third round of the 2019 MLB draft, he made his major league debut on May 28, 2022, and immediately impressed with a strong rookie season. His performance earned him the 2022 National League Rookie of the Year Award in November, finishing ahead of teammate Spencer Strider. During his rookie year, he won Rookie of the Month honors three times and signed an eight-year, $72 million contract extension with the Braves in August 2022. Harris was mentored by former MLB player Marquis Grissom, who coached him in summer leagues, and he dedicated his Rookie of the Year award to Grissom.
