William Ragsdale (born January 19, 1961, in El Dorado, Arkansas) is an American actor best known for playing Charley Brewster in the cult horror-comedy Fright Night (1985) and its sequel Fright Night Part 2 (1988). After gaining early acclaim on stage in Neil Simon's Brighton Beach Memoirs and Biloxi Blues, he starred as Herman Brooks on the sitcom Herman's Head (1991–1994), famously turning down a series regular role on Charmed to take the part. He also made a notable appearance on Ellen as the boyfriend of Ellen DeGeneres's character just before her character came out as a lesbian. In the 2010s, he had a recurring role as Gary Hawkins on the acclaimed series Justified (2010–2012) and appeared in the 2014 remake of Left Behind. Most recently, he played a vampire-hunting priest in the 2023 horror comedy Renfield, a clever nod to his Fright Night roots.
