The Buffalo Bills are a professional American football team based in the Buffalo–Niagara Falls area, competing in the NFL's AFC East and playing at Highmark Stadium. Founded in 1959 as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL), they joined the NFL in 1970 and are named after the legendary frontiersman Buffalo Bill. After winning back-to-back AFL titles in 1964 and 1965 with quarterback Jack Kemp, the team later made history by appearing in a record four consecutive Super Bowls (1990–1993)—only to lose each one, a mark they share with the Minnesota Vikings for most appearances without a win. Following a brutal 17-year playoff drought (the longest in major North American sports), the team returned to contention in the late 2010s. Currently owned by Terry Pegula (who bought the team in 2014), the Bills made headlines in 2024 by selling a 20.6% minority stake to private equity investors, including Arctos Partners, at a staggering $5.6 billion valuation.
