Beşiktaş Jimnastik Kulübü (BJK), founded in Istanbul in 1903, is Turkey's first registered sports club and a member of the country's "Big Three," having never been relegated from the top flight and proudly bearing the Turkish flag on its crest. The football team has amassed 21 league titles (including 16 Süper Lig wins) and 11 Turkish Cups, famously becoming the only club to complete a Süper Lig season undefeated (in 1991–92), with recent triumphs in the 2020–21 league and 2023–24 cup. Playing at the stunning 42,684-capacity Beşiktaş Stadium near Dolmabahçe Palace—where a record 76,127 fans watched a derby against Galatasaray—the club has also shone in Europe, reaching the European Cup quarter-finals in 1986–87 and going undefeated in the 2017–18 Champions League group stage. Its globally renowned fan group, Çarşı, is famous for its passionate support, setting a 132-decibel noise record during a 2007 match against Liverpool and championing a working-class, left-wing identity as "the people's team." Finally, the club's rich history began as a gymnastics society in March 1903, was formally registered in 1910, and expanded to include football in 1911, while today it also fields teams in basketball, volleyball, and many other sports.
