John Michael "Johnny Hockey" Gaudreau (August 13, 1993 – August 29, 2024) was a celebrated American professional ice hockey left winger who played 11 NHL seasons, primarily with the Calgary Flames, and was renowned for his exceptional skill despite his 5'9" frame. After a standout college career at Boston College, where he won a national championship in 2012 and the Hobey Baker Award in 2014, he was drafted by Calgary in 2011 and quickly became an NHL star. During his career, he was a seven-time NHL All-Star, won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy in 2016-17, was a Calder Memorial Trophy finalist, and finished fourth in Hart Memorial Trophy voting twice, helping to create opportunities for smaller players. In 2022, he signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he spent his last two seasons. Tragically, on August 29, 2024, Gaudreau and his younger brother Matthew were killed by a drunk driver while cycling in Oldmans Township, New Jersey.
