Jon Bernthal (born September 20, 1976, in Washington, D.C.) is an American actor celebrated for portraying brash, ethically complex characters. He first gained prominence as Shane Walsh in The Walking Dead (2010–2012) before becoming Frank Castle/The Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring in Daredevil (2016), his own series The Punisher (2017–2019), and Daredevil: Born Again (2025). His role as Michael Berzatto in Hulu's The Bear (2022–2026) earned him a Primetime Emmy Award, and his filmography includes hits like The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), Fury (2014), and Ford v Ferrari (2019). Raised in a Jewish family in Cabin John, Maryland, he dropped out of Skidmore College to study at the Moscow Art Theatre School, where he even played catcher for a Russian professional baseball team. He made his Broadway debut in Dog Day Afternoon in 2026, continuing a career marked by intense, method-acting performances.
