Justin Sun (born July 30, 1990) is a Chinese-born crypto billionaire and the founder of TRON, the blockchain behind the Tronix (TRX) token, and also owns major crypto exchanges Poloniex and HTX (formerly Huobi), as well as Rainberry (formerly BitTorrent). After earning degrees from Peking University and the University of Pennsylvania, Sun launched TRON's initial coin offering (ICO) in September 2017, raising about $70 million just days before China banned such sales, and later acquired BitTorrent for $140 million in 2018. With a net worth estimated at $8.5 billion (Forbes, 2026), Sun also served as Grenada's Permanent Representative to the WTO from 2021 to 2023. His career has been marked by controversy, including U.S. SEC investigations, allegations of plagiarized whitepapers, and a 2023 hack of Poloniex that stole $120 million, though his companies received more lenient SEC treatment after he formed business ties with President Donald Trump in 2025. Sun has also invested heavily in other crypto ventures, including a $75 million stake in World Liberty Financial in 2024, and was the largest individual staked ether holder in 2023.
