David Gardner (born May 16, 1966) is an American entrepreneur and one of the three founders of the financial services company The Motley Fool. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1988 on a Morehead Scholarship, he gained experience writing for Louis Rukeyser's Wall Street newsletter before co-founding the Fool with his brother, Tom. As a lead advisor, he helms the Rule Breakers service and co-leads the flagship Stock Advisor subscription, promoting a philosophy of passively holding dynamic growth stocks for the long term. He is also the inventor of Motley Fool CAPS, a popular community-driven platform featuring the rankings of over 75,000 stock pickers. Beyond his advisory work, he has co-authored several influential books with his brother, including The Motley Fool Investment Guide and Rule Breakers, Rule Makers.
