Awa Fam Thiam (born June 17, 2006, in Alicante to Senegalese parents) is a Spanish basketball sensation who made history on April 13, 2026, when she was drafted third overall by the Seattle Storm, tying Pau Gasol as the highest-ever draft pick by a Spanish player. She first impressed in Spain with Valencia Basket, debuting at just 15 years old as the club's youngest-ever player and later helping them secure a fourth consecutive Liga Femenina championship. In her WNBA debut on May 24, 2026, against the Washington Mystics, she scored 10 points in 20 minutes, becoming the 14th teenager in league history and only the second to reach double figures in their opening game. Her early impact continued with an 18-point performance in her first start against the Phoenix Mercury and a career-high 21 points on 88.9% shooting against the Atlanta Dream. Internationally, she has starred for Spain at the youth level, earning multiple silver medals at the U17, U16, and U19 World Cups and picking up All-Tournament selections along the way.
