The 2024–2025 European windstorm season, the tenth on record, spans from 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2025, with storm names unveiled on 28 August 2024. It features four distinct naming groups: the Western Group (UK, Ireland, Netherlands), the Southwestern Group (Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Luxembourg), the Central Mediterranean Group (Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Malta), and the Eastern Mediterranean Group (Greece, Israel, Cyprus). Since there is no universal definition of a windstorm, each group sets its own criteria—for instance, the Western Group names storms when an amber warning is issued, typically requiring sustained winds over 65 km/h or gusts exceeding 110 km/h, while Greece triggers at just 50 km/h. The Western Group has been naming storms since 2015, with the Netherlands joining in 2019, and the Southwestern Group is in its eighth year, whereas the Central and Eastern Mediterranean groups mark their fourth season. Notably, the Free University of Berlin assigns names to pressure systems (not storms themselves), and the Eastern Mediterranean Group shifts its season start by one month.
