Olympique Lyonnais (commonly known as Lyon or OL) is a professional French football club based in Lyon, founded in 1950 (with roots tracing back to 1899). The club competes in Ligue 1 and plays its home matches at the 59,186-capacity Groupama Stadium, wearing its traditional white, red, and blue colors. Lyon is most famous for a record-setting streak of seven consecutive Ligue 1 titles from 2002 to 2008, alongside eight Trophées des Champions, five Coupes de France, and three Ligue 2 championships. On the European stage, they have reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals twice (2009–10 and 2019–20) and the Europa League semi-final in 2016–17. The club's ownership transitioned from long-time president Jean-Michel Aulas (1987–2022) to American John Textor in December 2022, and then to Michele Kang in June 2025 amid financial difficulties. Nicknamed Les Gones ("The Kids" in the local dialect), Lyon maintains a fierce rivalry with nearby Saint-Étienne in Le Derby, and its early history includes a first Coupe de France victory in 1964.
