John Daly (born April 28, 1966), nicknamed "Long John" for his immense driving distance and distinctive long backswing, is an American professional golfer renowned for his spectacular highs, dramatic inconsistency, and rebellious, non-country-club attitude. His two greatest career victories were his dramatic "zero-to-hero" win at the 1991 PGA Championship and his playoff victory over Costantino Rocca at the 1995 Open Championship. Daly made history in 1997 as the first PGA Tour player to average over 300 yards per drive in a single season, leading the tour in driving distance 11 times from 1991 to 2002. After his last PGA Tour win in San Diego in 2004, he transitioned to the PGA Tour Champions in 2016, winning the 2017 Insperity Invitational, and he notably remains the only man from the U.S. or Europe to win two majors without ever being selected for the Ryder Cup.
