Ben Shelton (born October 9, 2002) is an American professional tennis player who has rapidly risen to world No. 5 in singles, making him the current No. 2 American. He has captured six ATP Tour singles titles, highlighted by the 2025 Canadian Open (a Masters 1000 event), and has reached the semifinals at both the 2023 US Open and the 2025 Australian Open. Growing up in Gainesville, Florida, as the son of former pro Bryan Shelton, he initially played football before dedicating himself to tennis at age 12. Shelton had a stellar college career at the University of Florida, clinching the 2021 NCAA team title and winning the 2022 NCAA Singles Championship to earn National Player of the Year honors. He turned professional in August 2022 after upsetting world No. 5 Casper Ruud in Cincinnati, and his explosive power was immediately evident when he recorded a 149 mph serve during his US Open debut.
