MetaStock is a proprietary software program used for charting and technical analysis of stocks and other assets, offering both real-time and end-of-day versions. It was originally released by Computer Asset Management in 1985 (with version 1.0 arriving in 1986), a company founded by Steve Achelis and later renamed Equis International in 1989. The early software quickly gained recognition, winning PC Magazine's Editor's Choice award in April 1986 alongside Achelis's other product, The Technician. To meet market demand, MetaStock RT launched in July 1992 to process live quotes, followed by the first Windows version (5.0) in 1995, which added support for Reuters data feeds. That partnership led to Reuters acquiring the company in 1996 and integrating MetaStock with platforms like Quotron (1998) and Reuters 3000 Xtra (2001). Ultimately, in June 2013, Thomson Reuters sold the software to Innovative Market Analysis, which owns it today.
