Alyssa Thomas (born April 12, 1992), nicknamed "AT" and "the Engine", is a dominant American basketball forward known for her physical, versatile play—currently starring for the Phoenix Mercury after an 11-year tenure with the Connecticut Sun. A six-time WNBA All-Star and seven-time All-Defensive Team member, she is the league's all-time leader in triple-doubles and won Olympic gold with Team USA in 2024. At the University of Maryland, she was a three-time ACC Player of the Year and led the Terrapins to a Final Four, becoming the program's all-time leader in points and rebounds before her 2024 Hall of Fame induction. Drafted 4th overall in 2014, she was traded to Connecticut, where she became the franchise's greatest player, setting records for games, points, and assists, before being traded to Phoenix in 2025 and leading them to the WNBA Finals. Uniquely, she is the only player in WNBA history to average at least 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists for her career, and the only one to amass 5,000 points, 3,000 rebounds, and 2,000 assists. Growing up in Pennsylvania, her mother coached her from age five, teaching her every position and instilling the competitive drive that defines her legendary career.
