By July 2024, it had replaced the legacy NASA TV as the agency's primary broadcasting platform, surpassing 40 million app downloads by that time. The service expanded its reach in 2025 by partnering with third-party platforms, including a channel on Twitch in February and a deal to carry its live events on Netflix in August. Its content at launch featured 25 original series, such as NASA Explorers and Other Worlds, and, as a federal public service, it operates entirely without commercial advertising. Notably, NASA+ won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Live News Special for its real-time coverage of the April 8, 2024 total solar eclipse, recognized at the 46th News and Documentary Emmy Awards on June 25, 2025.
