"Snow White" is a classic German fairy tale first written down by the Brothers Grimm and published in 1812 as Tale 53 in their collection Grimms' Fairy Tales, with the final revision appearing in 1854 and the first English translation released in 1823 under the title "Snow-Drop." The story is renowned for its iconic elements—including the magic mirror, poisoned apple, glass coffin, and the Evil Queen—as well as the seven dwarfs, who only received individual names in a 1912 Broadway play and later in Walt Disney's 1937 film. In the definitive 1857 plot, a queen wishes for a daughter with skin white as snow, lips red as blood, and hair black as ebony, but dies in childbirth, leading her widower king to marry a vain and wicked witch. When Snow White turns seven and surpasses her stepmother's beauty, the jealous Queen orders a huntsman to kill her and bring back her lungs and liver, but he spares her and instead delivers a boar's organs. Fleeing into the forest, Snow White discovers a tiny cottage belonging to seven dwarfs, where she eats their food and falls asleep, setting the stage for the classic tale. This story is classified as Aarne-Thompson type 709 and should not be confused with the Brothers Grimm's other fairy tale "Snow-White and Rose-Red."
