Shay Whitcomb, born on September 28, 1998, is an American professional baseball infielder who currently plays for the San Francisco Giants after beginning his MLB career with the Houston Astros. Drafted in the fifth round of the COVID-shortened 2020 MLB draft out of UC San Diego, he established himself as a power hitter in the minors, most notably with a breakout 2024 campaign at Triple-A Sugar Land. He made his major league debut on August 17, 2024, immediately doubling in his first at-bat, and capped off the year by winning the Triple-A Championship MVP and the Astros' Minor League Player of the Year award. In 2025, he recorded his first career MLB home run on July 2, while also dominating the minors with a three-homer game in May. After struggling offensively in the big leagues in 2026, he was designated for assignment by the Astros and claimed off waivers by the Giants on August 13, 2026; he notably has Korean heritage through his mother, adding to the intrigue of his ascent.
