Ronald Kulpa (born October 5, 1968) is a veteran Major League Baseball umpire who began his professional career in 1992 and was promoted to the majors in 1999 during the league's umpire shakeup. Over his career, he has officiated at the highest levels, including the World Series (2011, 2021), multiple League Championship Series, All-Star Games, and the 2009 World Baseball Classic, and he was named a crew chief in 2022. Kulpa is also known for several controversies, such as being head-butted by Carl Everett in 2000, ejecting A.J. Pierzynski during Yu Darvish's perfect game bid in 2013, and a heated 2019 confrontation with the Astros that led to multiple ejections. In 2021, he made a highly disputed hit-by-pitch call that gave the Mets a walk-off win over the Marlins, later admitting he had gotten the call wrong. On the positive side, he was the home-plate umpire for Justin Verlander's no-hitter in 2007 and also called a near no-hitter by Curt Schilling just days earlier.
