And That's Why We Drink (ATWWD) is a popular comedy podcast blending true crime and paranormal stories, created by Boston University graduates Christine Schiefer and Em Schulz and in production since February 2017. The show has achieved over eighty million downloads, won the People's Voice Webby Award for Best Comedy Podcast in 2019 and 2021, and has gone on two live tours across the United States and Canada. The duo expanded their brand in March 2022 with a Spotify-exclusive spin-off podcast called Rituals, and published their first book, A Haunted Road Atlas, in May 2022, which debuted at #6 on the New York Times Bestsellers list, followed by a sequel in September 2024. Each weekly episode splits into two segments: Schulz covers paranormal topics like hauntings, aliens, and cryptids, while Schiefer dives into true crime cases involving murders and abductions, alongside monthly "Listener Stories" where they read fan submissions. Originally titled "Eerie and Theory," the podcast famously saw Schiefer ("Team Wine") drinking alcohol while Schulz ("Team Milkshake") drank milkshakes, and has featured special guests like comedian Lisa Lampanelli, Schiefer's aunt-in-law, as well as a maternity leave period for Schiefer in 2021.
