Darline Lettie Graham Nordone (born June 12, 1964) is a Republican politician who became the first woman to represent South Carolina in the U.S. Senate when she was appointed on July 13, 2026, and sworn in the following day. She filled the vacancy left by the death of her brother, Lindsey Graham, making her the first senator in history to replace a sibling, and her appointment marked a record of 27 women serving concurrently in the Senate. After overcoming a challenging childhood—her parents died when she was young, and Lindsey became her legal guardian—she built a career in public administration, serving as commissioner of the South Carolina Commission for the Blind and later being elected president of the National Council of State Agencies for the Blind. Following encouragement from President Donald Trump, she entered the 2026 special election and won the primary, but her debate performance drew criticism when she failed to answer questions on Taiwan and the South China Sea. In her early tenure, she introduced bipartisan legislation to impose sanctions on Russia, modeled on a bill authored by her brother, and she serves on the Senate Appropriations Committee.
