Cameron Jerrell "Super Cam" Newton (born May 11, 1989) was an electrifying American quarterback who played 11 NFL seasons, primarily with the Carolina Panthers. He first gained national attention at Auburn, winning the Heisman Trophy and the 2011 BCS National Championship before being drafted first overall by the Panthers. Newton immediately made an impact, setting rookie records for passing and rushing yards by a quarterback and earning Offensive Rookie of the Year. His most successful season was in 2015 when he was named NFL MVP—the first African-American quarterback to outright win the award—leading Carolina to a franchise-best 15-1 record and a Super Bowl 50 appearance. Though his later career was impacted by injuries, including a stint with the New England Patriots, Newton left an indelible mark on the league with his groundbreaking dual-threat playing style.
