His business career peaked when he co-founded SoftKey Software, which aggressively consolidated the educational software market through hostile takeovers before being sold to Mattel in 1999, netting him roughly $6 million but leading to shareholder lawsuits over mismanagement. In 2017, he briefly campaigned for the leadership of Canada's Conservative Party but dropped out in April of that year due to a lack of support in Quebec.
