Born in 1996, Mayar Sherif is a historic Egyptian tennis player who reached a career-high ranking of world No. 31, the highest ever achieved by any Egyptian player, male or female, in the Open Era. She broke new ground by becoming the first Egyptian woman to play in a Grand Slam main draw at the 2020 French Open and then won her first major main-draw match at the 2021 Australian Open. Her trailblazing career also includes being the first Egyptian woman to qualify for the Olympics (Tokyo 2020) and the first Egyptian to reach a WTA 1000 quarterfinal at the 2023 Madrid Open. A graduate of Pepperdine University with a degree in sports medicine, Sherif has won two WTA Tour singles titles and a record ten WTA 125 singles titles, breaking into the top 50 in 2022. She remains a key player for Egypt in the Billie Jean King Cup, holding a 25–13 win-loss record as of June 2025.
