Carson Kelly (born July 14, 1994, in Chicago) is a professional baseball catcher who currently plays for the Chicago Cubs, having previously suited up for the St. Louis Cardinals, Arizona Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers, and Texas Rangers. Drafted by the Cardinals in the second round of the 2012 MLB draft as a third baseman out of an Oregon high school, he made the switch to catching in the minors and rose to become one of St. Louis's top prospects before making his MLB debut in 2016. Traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks after the 2018 season, he became their starting catcher in 2019 and tied the club's record for most home runs hit by a catcher in a single season with 18. After being released by Arizona in 2023, he briefly played for Detroit and Texas before signing with the Chicago Cubs as a free agent following the 2024 season. Growing up in Beaverton, Oregon, he was a two-time Gatorade Oregon Player of the Year and a childhood Cubs fan, though his favorite player was Yankees legend Derek Jeter.
