Black Panther (film)

Black Panther is a 2018 American superhero film directed by Ryan Coogler, starring Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa/Black Panther, who returns to the hidden African nation of Wakanda to claim the throne after his father's death. The story follows T'Challa as he is challenged by the vengeful Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), who aims to use Wakanda's advanced vibranium technology to launch a global revolution. It was the first Marvel Studios film with a Black director and predominantly Black cast, and was shot in Atlanta and South Korea. Critics praised its direction, acting, and cultural significance, helping it gross over $1.3 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film by a Black filmmaker. It also made history as the first superhero film nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, winning three Academy Awards, including Best Costume Design. A sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, followed in 2022, with the animated series Eyes of Wakanda arriving in 2025.
