US Sassuolo Calcio

Sassuolo Calcio (nicknamed the Neroverdi for their black-and-green kits) is an Italian professional football club based in Sassuolo, Emilia-Romagna, currently competing in Serie A, Italy's top division. After decades in amateur leagues, the club achieved a remarkable ascent, winning promotion to Serie B in 2008 under Massimiliano Allegri and then reaching Serie A for the first time in the 2013–14 season under Eusebio Di Francesco, thanks largely to teenage star Domenico Berardi—making them one of the few clubs to play in the top flight without representing a provincial capital. They stayed in Serie A for 11 seasons until relegation in 2023–24, but secured an immediate return to the top flight after just one year. A notable early highlight came in 2013 when they won the TIM Trophy, a preseason tournament, by defeating Juventus on penalties and then beating AC Milan 2–1—a feat previously only achieved by Italy's traditional "big three" clubs.
