Derek Barnett is an American football defensive end currently playing for the Cleveland Browns, having previously suited up for the Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Texans. He was drafted 14th overall by the Eagles in the 2017 NFL Draft after a standout college career at the University of Tennessee. In his 2014 freshman season, Barnett made history as the first true freshman defensive lineman to start a season opener for Tennessee, and he set an SEC freshman record with 10 sacks and 20.5 tackles for loss, surpassing Jadeveon Clowney’s previous mark. Over the next two seasons, he recorded multiple multi-sack games against top rivals and played a key role in bowl victories, including the 2016 Outback Bowl. He entered the NFL as a highly regarded prospect and continues to build his career with the Browns.
