A former competitive ice skater who retired at age 16, they made a successful transition to acting, earning praise for their role as a lovestruck babysitter in Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011). They later appeared in major films like Warm Bodies (2013), Lucy (2014), and led the romantic comedy Two Night Stand (2014), alongside television roles in The Big Bang Theory and Manhattan Love Story. In June 2021, Tipton publicly came out as queer and non-binary, adopting they/them pronouns, and they married entertainment executive Chaz Salembier in October 2022.
