Shiyazh Pete (born May 25, 2003) is an American professional football offensive tackle for the Dallas Cowboys, holding the historic distinction of being the first Navajo player (with part Salish heritage) to sign with an NFL team. Growing up on the Flathead Reservation in Montana and later in Apache County, Arizona, he played judo, basketball, and wrestling before concentrating on football at Shiprock High School, where he walked on to New Mexico State University in 2021. At NMSU, he started all 15 games at left tackle in 2023, earning first-team All-Conference USA honors while helping the Aggies to a 10-win season, a New Mexico Bowl appearance, and a historic upset over Auburn, despite battling a dislocated thumb; a 2024 ankle injury limited him to six starts. Following the departure of his offensive line coach, he entered the transfer portal and committed to Kentucky on January 19, 2025, for his final collegiate season. Pete's remarkable journey from the reservation to the professional ranks highlights his perseverance and athletic talent, marking a significant milestone for Native American representation in major professional sports.
