Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü, commonly known as Fenerbahçe, is a historic and highly successful multi-sport club based in Istanbul, Turkey, founded secretly in 1907 by Ziya Songülen, Ayetullah Bey, and Necip Okaner to evade the strict bans of Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II on Turkish youth playing football. The club's name means "lighthouse garden," and its iconic yellow and navy colors were adopted in 1910, replacing the original yellow and white stripes. Today, Fenerbahçe is one of the world's most decorated athletic organizations, holding a Guinness World Record from 2008 for achieving the highest number of medals and trophies (over 1,100) across its nine competitive departments. In the same year, it reached a market valuation of $2 billion, surpassing Manchester United as the world's most valuable club. With a massive global following and over 300,000 paid members, Fenerbahçe also played a notable historical role by competing against and defeating British occupation forces' teams in Istanbul during the Turkish War of Independence.
