Folsom Field is an outdoor college football stadium on the University of Colorado campus in Boulder, serving as the home of the Colorado Buffaloes in the Big 12 Conference. Opened in 1924 as Colorado Stadium, it was renamed in 1944 to honor legendary head coach Fred Folsom, and it sits at a high altitude of 5,360 feet—making it the third-highest stadium in FBS college football. Over the decades, the horseshoe-shaped venue has grown from 26,000 to over 53,000 seats through major renovations, including a $156 million north endzone rebuild in 2016 and a massive new video board installed in 2024. A notable pioneer, Folsom Field became the first "zero-waste" stadium in the NCAA in 2008 through aggressive recycling and composting programs. Its playing surface has alternated between natural grass and synthetic turf, with a return to AstroTurf 3D3 in 2025, a move aimed at preparing the venue to potentially host College Football Playoff games in the future.
