On November 13, 2022, a tragic mass shooting occurred on a chartered bus at the University of Virginia (UVA) in Charlottesville, resulting in the deaths of three football team members and injuries to two others. The perpetrator, 22-year-old Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., a former UVA football player, opened fire following a class trip, reportedly shouting that the victims had been "fucking with me all day." The deceased victims were identified as Lavel Davis Jr., D'Sean Perry, and Devin Chandler, with Davis Jr. bravely attempting to disarm Jones and Chandler tragically killed while asleep. Chilling text messages sent by Jones prior to the attack hinted at the impending violence, and he subsequently pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree murder and other charges on November 20, 2024.
