Walter Uhl

Walter Uhl (c. 1903–1984) was a major 20th-century builder on Long Island, New York, and the founder of the Flower Hill Building Corporation. He is best known for the Flower Hill Estates subdivision, started around 1939, where he built roughly 150 colonial-style homes using repurposed wood from old farmhouses to blend with the area's historic character. Following World War II, he expanded his portfolio, constructing the fifty-acre Plandome Mills development in 1950 and co-sponsoring the Orient-by-the-Sea resort and marina complex in 1962. He also restored the historic Milleridge Inn in Jericho in 1969. Uhl passed away on December 7, 1984, after which his son Thomas took over the corporation, leaving a lasting legacy of reproduction and custom homes across numerous Long Island towns.
