Douglas Robert Ford Jr., born November 20, 1964, is a prominent Canadian politician and businessman, serving as the 26th Premier of Ontario and leader of the Progressive Conservative Party since 2018. Hailing from a politically active family – his father was an MPP and his brother, Rob Ford, was Mayor of Toronto – Ford co-owns the family printing business, Deco Labels and Tags, and served as a Toronto city councillor from 2010 to 2014 during his brother's mayoral term. After an unsuccessful mayoral bid in 2014, he entered provincial politics, winning the PC Party leadership and leading them to three consecutive majority governments in 2018, 2022, and 2025.
As Premier, Ford has overseen significant policy changes, including decreasing the Toronto City Council's size, expanding private healthcare through the "Your Health Act," and navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. However, his tenure has also been marked by controversy, such as the Greenbelt scandal. Notably, political commentators have observed a shift in his approach since 2020, moving from conservative rhetoric to a more centrist and cooperative stance with the federal government.
