Robert W. Munley (April 16, 1906 – January 25, 1947) was an American politician who served five consecutive terms in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives until his death. After his father, state Representative William J. Munley, died suddenly in 1938, Robert was elected to the seat in 1939, though he had previously worked as an Internal Revenue Service deputy collector from 1933 to 1938. Re-elected four times, he passed away from a heart attack in 1947, and his wife Marion L. Munley subsequently won a special election to become the first woman to represent Lackawanna County in the state house. Beyond politics, Munley was a self-taught musician, a boxing enthusiast, and a deputy boxing commissioner, and he fathered two notable sons: federal judge James Martin Munley and prominent attorney Robert W. Munley Jr. As a legislator, he strongly championed organized labor and had drafted a bill to provide state financial assistance for the anthracite region's industrial rehabilitation just before his death.
