Al Michaels, born November 12, 1944, is a legendary American television play-by-play sportscaster whose career has spanned over five decades. Beginning his network sports tenure in 1971, he became a prominent voice during nearly three decades with ABC Sports (1976–2006), followed by a significant run with NBC Sports, and now calls Thursday Night Football for Amazon Prime Video.
Michaels is best known for his extensive work on National Football League games, including his iconic calls for ABC's Monday Night Football from 1986 to 2005 and NBC's Sunday Night Football from 2006 to 2021. Beyond football, he delivered memorable broadcasts such as the "Miracle on Ice" at the 1980 Winter Olympics and the earthquake-interrupted Game 3 of the 1989 World Series. A Brooklyn native, Michaels rose through regional sports broadcasting to become one of the most respected and recognizable voices in sports history.
