Serbia men's national basketball team

Serbia's men's national basketball team, currently ranked third in the FIBA World Ranking, is the legal successor to Yugoslavia and FR Yugoslavia, inheriting all of their historical results and medals. The nation is a global basketball powerhouse, boasting 15 FIBA Hall of Famers and 5 Naismith Hall of Famers, second only to the USA. Between 1995 and 2002, the team dominated international basketball, winning seven medals including back-to-back FIBA World Championships (1998 and 2002), three EuroBasket titles, and an Olympic silver medal in 1996. This success continues today, powered by modern stars like three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokić and EuroLeague MVPs Miloš Teodosić and Vasilije Micić. Serbian coaches are equally legendary, with Željko Obradović holding a record 19 EuroLeague titles, while administrator Borislav Stanković played a pivotal role in the sport's global growth. As FIBA's General Secretary, Stanković brokered a landmark agreement with NBA Commissioner David Stern that allowed NBA players to compete in the Olympics, directly globalizing the sport and opening the door for the modern era of international basketball.
