Baltimore Stallions
The Baltimore Stallions were a Canadian Football League (CFL) team that played in Baltimore for just two seasons (1994–1995), filling the void left after the NFL's Colts abruptly moved to Indianapolis in 1984. Originally named the "CFL Colts," the team was forced to legally change its title to the Baltimore Football Club after an NFL lawsuit just hours before their debut. Despite this setback, they became the most successful American team in the CFL's southern expansion, reaching the Grey Cup final both years and winning it in 1995—making them the only U.S. franchise to ever capture the championship. Their triumph was short-lived, however, as the city of Baltimore negotiated with Art Modell to bring the NFL's Cleveland Browns to town for the 1996 season, a competitor the CFL team couldn't match. Unable to rival the NFL's popularity, owner Jim Speros moved the franchise to Montreal, where it was reborn as the modern Montreal Alouettes, officially dissolving the Stallions just one month after their Grey Cup victory.
