Dancing with the Stars is the American adaptation of the British reality TV competition Strictly Come Dancing, which first premiered on ABC on June 1, 2005. This popular series pairs celebrities with professional dancers, who then perform various styles and compete for judges' scores and audience votes, with couples eliminated weekly until a champion is crowned.
Over the years, the show has seen several notable hosts, including Tom Bergeron for its first 28 seasons, before Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough took over as main and co-host respectively, starting with season 32 in 2023. The current judging panel features Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli; following the retirement of long-time head judge Len Goodman in 2022, the coveted Mirrorball Trophy was renamed in his honor.
In a significant broadcast shift, the series relocated from ABC to Disney+ for its 31st season in 2022, and now streams live on both platforms simultaneously; its 34th season is anticipated to premiere on September 16, 2025.
